Job Introduction

An opportunity has arisen for a Technician based in the Kettering area.

The successful candidate will be accountable to the Team Manager for the construction, maintenance and repair of the distribution network up to 66kV.  You will be require to take responsibility for safety, work planning, performance and the issuing of safety documents and other tasks appropriate to the technician role.  You will also be required to switch up to 66kV.

You will need to hold a Level 2 qualification in Electrical Engineering such as City & Guilds 2339 and if not already attained will be required to undertake Level 3.  You must also have attained GCSE grade A*-C/4-9 or the equivalent Functional Skills qualification in Maths and English.

* Please note the successful candidate may initially be appointed to a lower salary range until all necessary training and qualifications are complete.

Main Responsibilities

You will be accountable to the Team Manager for:

  • The construction, reinforcement, alteration and replacement of assets.
  • The maintenance and repair of assets.
  • The restoration of supplies to customers and repair of faulty assets.
  • The issue of safety documents up to 66kV.
  • The organisation of individual projects.
  • The cost effectiveness of individual projects.
  • Own performance and behaviour.
  • The impact of project and own activities on customers, public and environment.
  • The health and safety of the team.
  • The quality of own work.
  • Own personal development.
  • The identification of necessary physical resources.
  • The effective use of contracts.
  • The representation of the team and the Company at the individual level.

The Ideal Candidate

You must be able to work on our own initiative as part of a small team and be capable of making on the spot decisions as required.  You will need good communication skills, a flexible attitude and be able to cope in pressured situations often working to tight deadlines.  In addition you will be expected to train as an SAP and be mobile throughout the area as you will be required to undertake standby duties.
