Job Introduction

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Windows Server Systems Administrator within the Information Resources Computer Services team based at Elliott Road, Plymouth.  

The starting salary for this position will be £41,000 and will rise upon completion of training. 

Main Responsibilities

In this role you will be involved in Windows Server systems administration (operational support, server builds, PowerShell automation, Active Directory, Etc.).

The role also entails administration of VMware ESXi, backup and recovery, enterprise storage, physical server infrastructure and networking. 

The successful candidate will also be exposed to Firewalls, SQL Server and Oracle Databases and TCP/IP networking.

The Ideal Candidate

The following skills and qualifications:
  •  Windows Server core administrative skills (Active Directory, Certificate Services, DHCP, DNS, file systems, Group Policy, IIS, IP addressing, registry, remote management, user accounts, privilege assignment, Etc.).
  • Scripting / automation (PowerShell, Python, Etc.).
  • Understanding of common system architectures and awareness of associated security threat vectors.
  • Exposure to the following technologies would be advantageous:   Continuous integration / deployment (through Microsoft DSC or Ansible), GIT, Tanium and Splunk
  • Sound understanding of change management and configuration management.
  • Good communication skills (oral & written).
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Planning and organisational skills.
  • A Higher Level qualification in a relevant subject (Computer Science / IT).

You should be a team player who is able to make decisions using your own initiative to solve a range of IT related challenges. You must be able to demonstrate that you have the necessary skills and experience to make a success of this opportunity. As a member of the Windows Server team, you will be expected to participate in an Out of Hours standby working arrangement and may be required to work overtime. As the team supports multiple WPD sites, a driving licence is required.
