Our desire is to bring in more employees from diverse backgrounds to build further on our inclusive culture. We value and celebrate individual difference and we believe that an inclusive culture will help the business grow as a positive, strong and innovative company.

Job Introduction

An opportunity has arisen for a Craft Attendant based at our Derby depot. Working across the network wherever needed, you will assist with general site work - that might be repairs, maintenance or new construction work. It’s physical work and you'll  be out in all weathers, sometimes dealing with customers and always assisting a Craftsperson.

You might be making sure the van is stocked up with tools and equipment, putting up signs, preparing the site, assessing risks but always working safely. While you’ll usually be part of a team of two, you will also work with a wide variety of professionals, including managers, planners, technicians and contractors.

Progression opportunities may be available for someone who demonstrates a desire to learn and undertake new tasks. This will be dependent on business need.

To apply, you’ll need to have English GCSE (1-9 / G-A) or equivalent qualification deemed to be at the same level in this subject, such as Functional Skills. Evidence of your qualification will be required prior to appointment.

If you are offered a position, you will be required to successfully complete a basic DBS check that shows any unspent convictions or conditional cautions.

As part of our commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, all applications to Western Power Distribution jobs are automatically anonymised by our recruitment system. This is with the aim of realising our ambition to have a workforce which is reflective of the community we serve and eliminating unconscious bias, allowing employees to be appointed based on their talent, skills and experiences regardless of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or any other protected characteristic.

Our hiring managers will have no access to your name, age, gender or other diversity information until after shortlisting has taken place. This detail will become visible before interview to allow managers to prepare.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure before commencing work you understand the task/s that you have been instructed to undertake;
  • Promote and demonstrate a culture of Health Safety & Quality at all times;
  • Ensure the appropriate use of Tools, Equipment & Plant;
  • Report all accidents and incidents

The Ideal Candidate

You'll need a willingness to work outside as this role is suitable for someone who enjoys the demands of a physical outdoor environment. You will need good basic technology skills and to be able to communicate confidently with colleagues and customers.

You will need to be mobile throughout the area as you may be required to undertake out of hours standby duties, therefore a full driving licence is desirable.

Some electrical experience or an electrical qualification would be an advantage.

In addition to your competitive salary, we offer a competitive contributory pension scheme where the company will double match your pension contributions up to a maximum company contribution of 10%.
