Job Introduction

An opportunity has become available for a Vehicle Mechanic based in Taunton.

Our Transport teams ensure that the Western Power Distribution fleet operation is on the road 24/7, 365 days a year. That means taking responsibility for safety, ensuring legal compliance and delivering it all cost-effectively.  

In this role you will be helping to ensure that the vehicle fleet is operating in the most cost effective and efficient manner possible through helping to keep vehicle downtime to a minimum.

If you are offered a position, you will be required to complete and provide a satisfactory basic DBS check that shows any unspent convictions or conditional cautions.

*The successful candidate may initially be appointed on a lower salary until training is complete.

Main Responsibilities

  • Day to day management of own workload including liaising with customers.
  • Routine maintenance of all vehicles, including heavy goods.
  • Repairing and maintaining plant trailers and ancillary equipment.
  • Arranging repairs and maintenance with contracted suppliers.
  • Preparing and presenting vehicles for annual testing.
  • Road testing and diagnosing vehicle faults.
  • Ordering of parts as required for the maintenance and repair of the WPD Transport fleet.

The Ideal Candidate

You should have the ability to work well by yourself as well as within a team environment.  Good numeracy and literacy skills are essential.

You will hold the appropriate City & Guilds or NVQ Motor Vehicle certificate and a valid LGV (Class C) driving licence would be an advantage.

We would envisage the successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years' experience as a vehicle mechanic given the scope and responsibilities of the role.
