Job Introduction

WPD hosts an impressive IT department where an opportunity has arisen for a Developer to join the WPD Applications team. The vacancy exists within a small, cross functional team, that specialises in mobile, web and middleware development.  The team create & maintain a wide variety of real-time, mission critical systems.

* Please note, where the successful candidate does not hold all the necessary skills to carry out the role in full, you may initially be appointed to a lower salary until all relevant training is complete.

If you are offered a position, you will be required to complete and provide a satisfactory basic DBS check that shows any unspent convictions or conditional cautions.

Main Responsibilities

  • Responsible for tasks across the software development lifecycle for new projects and existing systems.
  • Adherence to coding standards and cyber security principles.
  • Reporting to and supporting senior team members.
  • Support and maintenance of existing systems, including liaising with stakeholders and 3rd parties as necessary.
  • Keeping up-to-date with relevant technology trends and software updates/releases.

The Ideal Candidate

​The following requirements are essential to this role:

  • A background in mobile, middleware or front-end development
  • An understanding of software development life cycles with source control and CI/CD
  • Appreciation of Cyber Security and understanding of secure development principles and practices.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

Desirable technical knowledge includes:

  • Mobile, Hybrid or Native development / toolsets.
  • Object Oriented Programming Languages.
  • Restful web services.
  • Relational database understanding and SQL experience

A willingness, once suitably qualified, to participate in an out of hour’s standby working arrangement within the team.

A valid driving licence is preferred.
